Thermal Protector

(as applied to motors). A protective device for assembly as an integral part of a motor or motor-compressor that, when properly applied, protects the motor against dangerous overheating due to overload and failure to start.

Thermally Protected

(as applied to motors). The words Thermally Protected appearing on the nameplate of a motor or motor-compressor indicate that the motor is provided with a thermal protector.

Three Phase

A term characterizing a combination of three circuits energized by alternating voltage sources which differ in phase by one-third of a cycle, 120 degrees.

Transformer

A static electrical device which , by electromagnetic induction, regenerates AC power from one circuit into another. Transformers are also used to change voltage from one level to another.

Two-Phase

A term characterizing a combination of two circuits energized by alternating voltage sources which differ in phase by a quarter of a cycle, 90 degrees.
